Why would I have a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation commonly referred to as the ‘boob job,’ is a surgical procedure to enlarge breast size. It involves inserting breast implants under the breast tissue or chest muscles. There are numerous reasons to undergo this surgery, including:

    • One of your breasts is larger than the other
    • You have micromastia or disproportionately small breasts
    • You are dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts
    • Your breast droop or get smaller post-pregnancy
    • Your breast sag as you age or after significant weight loss
    • You have had a mastectomy

What are the benefits of having a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance. It can add volume and curves to your silhouette, making you look more feminine and voluptuous and can be a self-esteem and confidence booster. The procedure can also even out naturally asymmetrical breasts and make you appear more youthful. If you have had a mastectomy, breast augmentation can restore your breasts and help you feel like yourself again.

    What is the recovery time?

There is no exact timeline of recovery since everyone’s body is unique. In general, you may feel uncomfortable for 3 to 5 days following the surgery. If your job is not physically demanding, you may be able to return to work within 2 weeks. Make sure to avoid upper arm movements for 1 to 2 weeks. Physical exercise and lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds should be avoided for 6 weeks after the surgery.

How long will I need to stay in the hospital after my procedure?

Breast augmentation can be performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you can leave the hospital on the same day. However, in most cases, you may need to stay in the hospital overnight.

How long should I expect to stay overseas after my procedure?

It is recommended to stay in the country for at least 7 to 10 days after your surgery. During your stay, you will need to attend regular check-ups to make sure your implants are properly functioning. Your doctor will also remove your stitches, usually within a week post-op.

What aftercare should I take into consideration?

Your surgeon will likely give you post-operative instructions. Follow the instructions closely to avoid any complications and to ensure your implants can heal properly. You will likely experience mild bruising and swelling after surgery, which will subside within several weeks. Your surgeon may teach you breast massage techniques to speed up your recovery, reduce discomfort, and avoid capsular contracture. You will need to wear a soft and supportive post-surgical bra, elastic bandage, or sports bra to support and position them during your recovery. Remember not to wear an underwire bra since it can affect the position of the breast implant. However, if your surgeon tells you not to wear a bra at all during your recovery period, follow their instructions. You may be able to shower within 24 hours but avoid bath water, hot tubs, swimming pools, oceans, lakes, whirlpools, and other still water

    What’s the success rate like?

Over 98% of women are satisfied with the results, giving them a more desirable look and a huge confidence boost. The most common complications are concerned with the wound healing areas and the position of the implants, which usually can be addressed with at-home physiotherapy during your recovery period.

    Before and After

    Can I breastfeed after augmentation?

Yes, you can breastfeed after augmentation. The implants are usually placed below the breast tissue, so it does not affect your breasts’ ability to produce milk. Implants that are placed under the chest muscle also preserves proper breast functioning. During your consultation, make sure to discuss your breastfeeding needs with your surgeon.

    Are there alternatives?

The most common alternative is fat transfer; your surgeon removes unwanted fat cells from one part of your body through liposuction and then injects the fat cells into your breast area.
